BirdBrain Ostrich Ranch - Sherrills Ford, NC
Located in Sherrills Ford, NC (near Mooresville and Davidson), BirdBrain Ostrich Ranch is a unique find. Ostrich has become increasing popular on local restaurant menus and at home. You get red meat flavor with 40% less fat than beef. (Who knew that a flightless bird could produce a red poultry meat?) Ostrich steak can be prepared the same as any fine red meat, and is great on the grill (it cooks quickly). The eggs seem very large to us, but actually are small relative to the size of the bird. One egg is the equivalent of almost two dozen chicken eggs. (That's one very big deviled egg!) BirdBrain's livestock is raised chemical free, without steroids or growth hormones on a small farm with approximately 50 ostrich of various ages on the farm at any time. Contact them and take a tour to learn more.

Grateful Growers Farm
Grateful Growers Farm is a small diversified farm in eastern Lincoln County, North Carolina. The farm is all about producing amazing food in a conscientious manner. The operation is a meeting of craftsmanship agriculture and culinary artistry. The cornerstone of the farm is the Tamworth hog. Unlike ‘mass produced’ pork, their hogs are raised on pastures where they freely graze, play and wallow. They do not use added hormones or antibiotics, and finished products are all free from fillers, preservatives, nitrates and MSG. Try out their products - they can be found at a variety of local farmers’ markets, fine restaurants, and retailers in the greater Charlotte area (and beyond!).
Besides focusing on producing wonderful duck, pork, and shiitake mushrooms, owners Natalie Veres and Cassie Parsons are also passionate about cultivating a sense of community through our farming enterprise. In addition to the farm, they own both The Harvest Moon Grille food cart and the brick-and-mortar restaurant at The Dunhill.

Produce:
Tega Hills Farm - Fort Mill, SC
Tega Hills Farm in Fort Mill, SC, managed by Mark and Mindy Robinson, produces fresh microgreens, lettuce, herbs, and other vegetables. Microgreens are a true specialty of theirs - edible greens and herbs, harvested at the beginning of the first true leaf stage. (Currently, CF's loving the pea shoots.) Packed with more flavor and nutrition than full-grown greens, microgreens vary in size from approximately 1 to 3 inches in length. You have probably enjoyed these microgreens and Tega Hills's other specialty produce at the farmers' markets, country clubs and high-end restaurants around town like Kalu, Barrington's, Bently's on 27 and Blue Restaurant & Bar.
They use hydroponic systems and controlled environment agriculture techniques to provide year-round local produce. (Yes, that means lettuce year-round and early spring tomatoes!) Currently, the farm offers twice-weekly delivery to Charlotte-area restaurants and country clubs, and they are vendors at the Matthews Farmers' Market and the Charlotte Regional Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings. They also offer a weekly pick-up service at the farm and a corporate drop-off service for in-season produce.
